DECEMBER Introduction to Nose Work
This is the most fun you'll have in a dog training class!
Service Description
Nose work starts with this class for you and your dog. It is also THE most fun you will have in a dog training class! And it is appropriate for ALL dogs regardless of age, physical condition, or previous training. Proof of Parvo, Distemper, and Rabies vaccinations (or titers) are required prior to the start of the first class. Reawaken your dog's love of using their nose to search and hunt for favorite treats or toys. ~High-energy dogs burn calories as they race around on the hunt. ~Aging or disabled dogs can flex their brain muscles as they puzzle out the search at their own pace. ~Shy or fearful dogs all love nose work because dogs are always separated and nose work games are always played one dog at a time. During this six week class, your dog will develop confidence by learning to find favorite treats or toys hidden in different locations. As confidence grows, the puzzles we ask them to solve get more difficult. Dogs with no prior training or dog sport experience find success early and often with Nose Work as their first activity. All the supplies you need for the class will be provided for you. Just bring your dog, her nose, and lots of small and VERY yummy treats. When deciding what treats to bring, think about the three S's: small, soft, and stinky. The treats should be ones that are extra special for your dog and ones she does not get any other time (so no hard, crunchy biscuits or kibble). Some class favorites are: bacon, hot dogs, roast beef (most dogs seem to prefer theirs rare), any of the Vital Essentials or Stella and Chewy brand dog treats, etc. But your dog will tell you what is best! You don't need any special equipment. Your dog can search on a flat buckle or martingale collar (no pinch or chain "choke" collars are allowed in the search area) or a harness with your everyday leash (any type or length). Please be sure to review our Policies and Procedures section for more information about what to bring to class, make-up classes, etc.
